From the 1-15 of December 2003, Prof. Shamsul AB, of the National University of Malaysia will tour Paris, Leeds, Berlin, Bonn, Dusseldorf and Brussels delivering a Lecture entitled "Islam Embedded: Religion and Plurality in Southeast Asia as a Mirror for Europe."

His Lecture which re-examines the nature and state of Islam in Southeast Asia in light of the Bali and Jakarta bombings, and the global popular association of Islam and violence, argues against the idea of a 'global Islam.' Prof. Shamsul asserts that Islam in Southeast Asia is one that is embedded into an already entrenched understading in the region - much in the same way that Islam in Europe is embedded into a highly pluralized understanding in the region.
