"Connecting Civil Society of Asia & Europe: An Informal Consultation"

Barcelona, Spain

Recognising the importance of bridging civil societies in Asia and Europe, the Asia-Europe Foundation, Casa Asia (Barcelona, Spain), the International Institute for Asian Studies, and the Japan Center for International Exchange (Tokyo, Japan) with the support of the Japanese Government, co-organised a conference on Connecting Civil Society of Asia and Europe from 16 to 18 June 2004, in Barcelona.

The two-day meeting brought representatives from various Civil Society groups in Asia and Europe together to discuss issues of mutual concern, such as governance and human rights, urbanisation and the environment, academic co-operation, interfaith dialogue, social issues, international relations, and much more. It provided a platform for constructive dialogue on the future direction of civil society co-operation between the regions of Asia and Europe, a few months before the Fifth ASEM Summit, to be held in Hanoi, Vietnam in November 2004.
